Founded in 2018 by a group of young Queer leaders, Roche Hopes is a vibrant organization dedicated to the social, cultural, and economic empowerment of LGBTQI youth in Cameroon. Their flagship project, Youth on the March, was born in response to a growing need for safe, affirming, and visible spaces in an increasingly challenging national context.
Against a backdrop of stigma and discrimination, Roche Hopes envisions a Cameroon where LGBTQI youth can live with dignity and without fear. The organization promotes access to sexual and mental health services, delivers human rights education, and organizes activities that foster self-worth, resilience, and solidarity.
Through workshops, cultural events, and creative initiatives, the team supports hundreds of young people in navigating their identities while facing mounting social and political pressures — making their mission ever more urgent.
The Youth on the March program includes inclusive sport hikes, human rights awareness days, trans fashion shows, and art competitions. These gatherings are more than just events — they are lifelines, offering rare opportunities for LGBTQI youth to feel seen, heard, and safe in a climate that increasingly tries to silence them.
Since its launch, the project has reached over 790 LGBTQI+ youth, providing them with support, visibility, and a sense of belonging at a time when safe queer-led spaces are under increasing threat in Cameroon.
