New Monday’s Rainbow Haven project in Paramaribo, Suriname, creates a safe(r) space for LGBTIQ+ youth. Through ballroom culture, the initiative offers psychosocial support and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education. The goal is to support mental well-being, foster empowerment, and equip young people with essential tools for navigating their identities and relationships.
Since 2017, New Monday has been working to improve the well-being of queer youth in Suriname by focusing on education, health, and social inclusion. The organization offers room for self-expression and identity exploration, with ballroom culture as a key tool to build confidence, community, and creative expression.
With support from PlanetRomeo Foundation, the Rainbow Haven project strengthens community resilience by offering access to affirming care, sexual health education, and peer-led activities. This holistic approach provides not just information, but also emotional and social support, creating a vital sanctuary for youth.
