For the first time ever, the Belizean LGBT community celebrated Pride Week. Several organizations held events which gave the LGBT community a chance to be out and proud.
This was the second important moment for the Belizean LGBT community, after a landmark event on October 10th, 2016. That day was a symbolic day for the LGBT community in Belize. That was when Caleb Orozco won his case against the Attorney General and overturned the sodomy law in Belize. Pride Week was a different kind of symbolic event, marking an equally important moment in Belize’s LGBT history.
Our Circle’s event, the All Night Beach PRIDE Party, was part of their project funded by us. The event was held at a privately-owned beach, which hosted over 200 LGBTs and their allies.
