Fellows in Action to Fighting Against Social Injustice (FAFASI) is a Kabwe, Zambia-based nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the voices and rights of the LGBTIQ+ community. Their project, Strengthening LGBTIQ+ Community’s Legal and Democracy Literacy in Zambia, aims to provide legal education to LGBTIQ+ individuals in three urban slums, helping them understand and claim their rights within a society where discrimination is rampant.
FAFASI was established as a response to the rising violence and discrimination against LGBTIQ+ individuals in Zambia. Their vision is a Zambia where LGBTIQ+ people are fully recognized, respected, and able to live without fear of stigma or criminalization. By raising awareness about LGBTIQ+ rights, FAFASI works to transform societal views and end the criminalization of homosexuality.
FAFASI empowers over 3,000 LGBTIQ+ individuals, offering legal training, establishing safe spaces for community building, and providing emergency support. The project strengthens the LGBTIQ+ community’s ability to advocate for their rights, fostering a safer, more inclusive environment in Zambia.
