Eradicating Stigmatization and Discrimination Initiative (ESADI) is an LGBTQI+ organization in Lagos, Nigeria, dedicated to displaced LGBTQI+ individuals and those navigating HIV treatment. Through their Everyone Matters project, ESADI created a safe space for those facing homelessness as a result of rejection and discrimination, ensuring they receive stability and support during difficult times.
ESADI was born from the lived experiences of its founders, who faced homelessness and stigma themselves. The initiative prioritized shelter, HIV treatment adherence, and community care. By working with local LGBTQI+ organizations, ESADI was able to identify those in need, fostering an environment for individuals to heal and rebuild their lives without fear.
Due to recent developments, including government registration requirements, ESADI has now transitioned the management of its safe housing program to its sister organization, Nwaogu Manu Literacy Initiative.
ESADI continues forward with a sharper focus on local advocacy and events aimed at bringing together queer individuals.
