Youth LGBT Organization DEYSTVIE is a grass-roots LGBTI organization in Sofia, Bulgaria. It was established in 2012 with the aim to serve as an accelerator for the LGBTI movement in Bulgaria.
Even though law provisions for LGBTIs are relatively progressive in comparison with other countries in the world, a 2015 Amnesty International report showed that 86% of Bulgarian LGBTIs suffered violence or threats and did not report these to the police. A third of those did not report because they feared homophobic or transphobic reactions from the police.
With our funding, DEYSTVIE created an online platform, serving as a virtual LGBTI center. On the website, they provide information for LGBTI people and their parents, information about legislation and practices, as well as information about the situation for LGBTI people in foreign countries. It also provides free psychological and legal consultation.
DEYSTVIE’s wish to eventually open a physical LGBTI center even became a reality. Through active collaboration with different LGBTI organizations, the Rainbow Hub is a fact!
Project results
