This funded project addresses the unique challenges faced by elderly and middle-aged LGBTQ individuals in Uganda. It enables the development of grassroots support to combat isolation, ageism, and mental health struggles among older LGBTQ individuals.
After consultations with older activists, the funded group uncovered systemic neglect of elderly LGBTQ people. They recognized the need for spaces where elderly LGBTQ individuals can age with dignity, free from discrimination, and be engaged in the broader LGBTQ movement. Through psychosocial support, advocacy, and economic empowerment, the project fills a critical gap in Uganda’s LGBTQ community.
This initiative strengthens the LGBTQ movement in Uganda by increasing visibility, social capital, and collective advocacy for older community members, fostering a future where all generations can thrive together.
