This funded project is a regional initiative in Uganda, providing shelter and support to LGBT+ individuals facing extreme discrimination and violence. With Uganda’s new anti-gay law in effect, the project seeks to relocate an LGBT+ safehouse to a more secure, undisclosed location to protect residents from arrest or worse. The project also includes a chicken farming initiative to create a sustainable income for the community.
The initiative primarily supports LGBT+ people who have been ostracized by their families or persecuted by the state. With help from allies, the project provides safety, food, and medical support to over 35 individuals through its safehouse. The success of this project will ensure the safety of an even greater number of individuals and help create a more sustainable future for Uganda’s LGBT+ community, offering them a chance to live with dignity and security.
The long-term vision of the organizers is to empower Uganda’s LGBT+ community to live without fear of violence or discrimination.
