Many of QIT-Initiative’s members were already activists in regional LGBT-movements. In 2016, they joined forces as QIT, using their common knowledge and experience in order to improve the quality of life for trans, intersex and queer people in Samara.
In Russia, both government policies and the influence of the Russian orthodox church result in high levels of transphobia, as well as discrimination of transgender people. As a result, they are facing stress, depression or even become suicidal.
With PlanetRomeo Foundation funding, QIT offered them a safe space, which created an environment for mutual support, acceptance, and social inclusiveness. By organizing weekly support groups, monthly discussion clubs and workshops, they built and strengthened the Samara Trans community.
Project results
- 24 support groups were organized;
- 6 discussion clubs were held;
- A body improvisation workshops for trans* people was given;
- A total of 147 people benefited from these activities.
