Queer Alliance Nigeria

The LGBT community in Nigeria is facing dark times since the introduction of the Same Sex Prohibition Bill on January 14th, 2014.

The bill makes same-sex relationships illegal, with a maximum punishment of 14 years in prison in the south and death by stoning in the north. This also means working for an LGBT organization is very dangerous. Still groups like Queer Alliance Nigeria bravely try to help the local community.

With the aid of PlanetRomeo Foundation, Queer Alliance Nigeria wants to respond to safety and security needs of LGBT Nigerians; for example, through education and nationwide workshops on these issues. Queer Alliance will also monitor the situation for the LGBT community in Nigeria as a way to protect community members from possibly dangerous and threatening situations that might develop.
